LAUREN MONET

A DAY AT EL CASTILLO DE CHAPULTEPEC

El Castillo de Chapultepec is located in El Bosque de Chapultepec, which is an expansive park located at the center of the city. This particular building is the only royal castle located in the Americas and has served a number of purposes from an imperial residence to a military academy. The hill it resides on was sacred to the Aztecs, holding the name of 'Chapultepec Hill' which means 'Grasshopper's Hill' in Nahuatl (Aztec Language). The journey to the castle is about a mile long in an uphill circle. We arrived a bit before 8:30 to allow time to figure out where the heck we were going, and it turns out we showed up so early that we ended up being the first people in the castle with hardly anybody else there. By the time we were leaving there was a line of about 200 people waiting to get in and people scattered all over the grounds.
