The October Edit: Amazon Fall Wardrobe Essentials Worth Buying
An ongoing edit of things worth your attention this month.
THE EDIT / OCTOBER 2026
October is an interesting time to get dressed. We're collectively pretending it's fall, buying sweaters we can't reasonably wear yet, and convincing ourselves that this is the year we'll finally have a well-curated autumn wardrobe. I sweart though, this really is the year.
Personally, I've never needed much convincing to buy another knit. As a Taurus, I'm such a sucker for a plush textile which I see as a glorified structured blanket.
This month's edit is less about reinventing the wardrobe and more about introducing a few things that make what's already hanging in your closet feel interesting again. Fun proportions, thoughtful details, interesting textures, and the occasional completely unnecessary purchase that somehow becomes essential heheheheh.
Consider this a running list of things I'm wearing, things I'm eyeing, and things I think are actually worth buying.
01. The Knit Situation
A chunky cardigan is doing most of the work for you, so let it. I like this one buttoned all the way up and treated more like a top than a layer—the high neck, oversized shape, and statement buttons are interesting enough on their own.
I'd pair it with a fluid trouser and pointed black boot, or play with proportion and wear it over a sheer midi skirt with a boot. For something more casual, relaxed dark-wash denim, an oversized leather bag, and a stack of silver jewelry.
The formula is really just contrast: something heavy with something fluid, oversized with something narrow, cozy with a shoe that isn't.
SHOP THE EDIT: Oversized knits, asymmetric sweaters, fine-gauge layers.
02. A Better Basic
I'm not particularly interested in basics for the sake of basics. I want a basic that does something.
A slightly exaggerated shoulder. A neckline that makes an otherwise boring top interesting. A fabric that falls exactly where it should.
Sometimes the difference between an outfit and a look is a $20 top with the right proportions.
SHOP THE EDIT: Long-sleeve essentials, fitted tops, interesting necklines.
03. The Trouser Department
At this point, a good pair of trousers is practically a personality trait. I'm always looking for something with a beautiful drape, a generous leg, or a waistline that makes everything else fall into place.
The beauty of a great trouser is that it does most of the work for you. Add a simple top, an interesting shoe, and suddenly it looks like you've put considerably more thought into getting dressed than you actually have.
SHOP THE EDIT: Wide-leg trousers, relaxed tailoring, fluid silhouettes.
04. Something With a Little Structure
A fitted leather jacket is the antidote to everything oversized in my closet. This one has enough shape through the waist to feel almost like a top on its own, while the texture keeps it from feeling too polished. I'd wear it zipped with a wide-leg or barrel trouser and pointed heel.
SHOP THE EDIT: Structured outerwear, cropped jackets, transitional pieces.
05. The Accessories Are Doing the Heavy Lifting
I've said it before, but the details are always the most interesting part.
I'm especially drawn to accessories that feel like objects in their own right. Something with shape, weight, or an interesting finish.
Sometimes all an outfit needs is one slightly unreasonable accessory.
SHOP THE EDIT: Statement jewelry, organic shapes, silver accessories.
06. Shoes Worth Getting Dressed For
There are shoes you wear because they're practical, and then there are shoes you build an entire outfit around. I'm currently interested in a combination of both.
Interesting toe shapes, unexpected heels, and footwear that adds a little tension to an otherwise simple look. A pointed boot with an oversized trouser. A delicate flat with something masculine. A substantial loafer with a feminine silhouette.
It's the contrast that makes it interesting.
SHOP THE EDIT: Boots, loafers, flats, statement footwear.
07. The Beauty Counter
Getting dressed doesn't necessarily begin with the clothes.
I've always thought the beauty routine is part of the overall composition. The hair, the skin, the fragrance, the little things that make you feel like you've actually finished getting ready.
This month's beauty edit is about products that earn their place in the routine rather than another collection of things I'll use twice and forget about.
Although I'm certainly not above buying something for the packaging.
SHOP THE EDIT: Milky toner, lots of lip products, everyday beauty.
A Final Note
I don't believe a new season requires an entirely new wardrobe. In fact, I'd argue the most interesting outfits usually come from figuring out what to do with the things you already own.
But I'm also not going to pretend I don't enjoy shopping.
The point is to buy with a little more intention, experiment with what catches your eye, and remember that the price of something has very little to do with how interesting you can make it look.
Anyway, here's everything I've been looking at this month.
XOXO,
Lauren Monet
